Issuing of Interim Planning Directive No. 8 - Application of Attenuation Code – King Island

The Minister has made Interim Planning Directive No. 8 – Application of Attenuation Code – King Island. The interim planning directive becomes effective on 11 August 2023 and applies only to the King Island Interim Planning Scheme 2013. The interim planning directive applies provisions from the State Planning Provisions (SPPs) Attenuation Code to new activities related to the the Dolphin Tungsten Mine at Grassy, King Island and sensitive uses in proximity to the mine (within a mapped overlay area). It provides an immediate response to potential land use conflicts identified since the mine re-opened and expanded its operations in proximity to Grassy township.

An interim planning directive (IPD) provides for a draft planning directive to have interim effect while it is being formally assessed by the Tasmanian Planning Commission (the Commission). Visit the Tasmanian Planning Commission website for details about the assessment of the related draft Planning
Directive No. 11.

IPDs may be issued by the Minister after considering a recommendation from the Commission regarding a related draft planning directive and if the Minister is satisfied that the provisions are:

  • necessary or desirable to address a critical or significant planning issue in the immediate term; and
  • in the public interest in the immediate term.
